Ramona is a census-designated place in San Diego County that offers country living in a small-town setting where 21,704 residents call home. They have a strong sense of community, believe in family values and enjoy a quieter way of life away from the traffic and troubles of bigger cities. Locals enjoy the sparse suburban feel. The Ramona community plan area consists of approximately 84,000 acres situated east of the city of Poway and north of Lakeside. To the east lie the North Mountain and Central Mountain subregions. While folks seek out Ramona for the semi-rural lifestyle and tranquility, don’t let the small-town vibe fool you: There are plenty of restaurants offering foods from around the world, and most of your everyday errands can be taken care of in Ramona without having to go down the hill to Poway or Escondido. Ramona has a central shopping corridor with just about everything you might need for everyday essentials.
Ramona offers a variety of housing options ranging from rental apartments to luxury ranches and the public schools in Ramona are above average and the area has a lot of parks making this a great place to raise a family. But there are many things to do for all. Ramona is home to the Oasis Camel Dairy, a family-friendly North County attraction that offers farm tours and camel rides one weekend each month, as well as animal shows and camel milk products. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park and Barona Casino are both nearby, and Ramona’s growing wine industry has led to a number of wine-tasting opportunities in which visitors are certain to be interested. Ramona is quickly becoming the place to go for Southern California wine, and there are wineries all over the map. The community celebrates the outdoors, and a great place to experience the environment is the Ramona Grassland Preserve. The main feature is a 3.1-mile walking trail, and a large part of Santa Maria Creek is within the preserve’s boundaries.
A final stop to your nature neighbors is the Wildlife Research Center. The Center has played a crucial role in protecting the Ramona Grasslands and has worked to protect the raptor, migrant geese, and the burrowing owl populations. The crime rate here is low and people report to feel very safe in Ramona. Most of the property is in the Santa Maria Valley. We honestly think that this is a diamond waiting to be investigated.
